Reconstruction of Ofankor-Nsawam road starts next month

An 18-kilometre Ofankor-Nsawam road reconstruction project is to begin next month after the clearing of more than 1,000 structures along the highway.

The three-lane dual carriage road, with two service-lanes, is expected to reduce traffic on that stretch.

It would be undertaken by Maripoma Enterprise Limited and expected to be completed in three years.

The Municipal Chief Executive of the Ga West Municipal Assembly, Mr Clement Wilkinson, disclosed this to the Ghanaian Times, during a tour to the project site at Amasaman, a suburb of Accra on Tuesday.

It was also to sensitise traders and drivers who would be relocating their structures along the road for the commencement of the project.

He said the road which is a government of Ghana project was in line with the dualisation of the Accra-Kumasi highway project which aims to address traffic on the Accra- Nsawam road works.

Mr Wilkinson said the affected traders and drivers would be relocated before the commencement of the road works and compensated.

He said preliminarily work had started adding that by the end of next month, work would start.

The MCE appealed to the affected people to cooperate with the assembly to ensure the relocation of the structures to pave way for the project.

“I appeal to the affected traders and drivers to adhere to the relocation directive for the construction of the road,” he added.

The Project Director, Dr Richard Kwofie told the Ghanaian Times that the project would help reduce traffic on the road and ensure free flow of traffic for commuters.

He stressed the need for obstacles in the right of way of the project construction work to begin.
