Ranking Member of the Parliamentary Health Committee and the Member of Parliament for Juaboso Constituency in the Western Region, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has stated that a bi-partisan committee in parliament in the fight against Coronavirus will keep the Government on its toes and move it to action.

In an interview on the Happy Morning show aired on Happy 98.9 FM, he opined that what the Government has done over the past months was a lot of talk with few action.

“If we have a bipartisan committee we will call Minister of Finance and Health to give us details on the money used. This will also put the Government on its toes because there will be a check. The issue goes beyond health. Security and economic issues are involved”, he said.

He revealed that in the past, the minority had called upon the Ministers involved in fighting COVID-19 and all they had received were excuses.

He however noted that the way forward in fighting the Coronavirus pandemic is to increase education on the disease, to provide training and equipment to health workers and make available the budget for the 100 million dollars allocated to the fight of Coronavirus.

In his comments, he made known that the minority will keep on bringing Government’s attention to the loopholes but it will be sad if the Government does nothing about it.

The Minority Leader in Parliament, Haruna Iddrisu over the week recommended to parliament that nonpartisan, multisectoral and multigenerational team of experts from the many fields that will be required to implement a national action plan. Their technical expertise informs the Minority’s views on the nature and needs of a national response to the COVID-19 threat.
