University of Ghana to offer course in tourism

Accra, Sept. 14, GNA - The Institute of African Studies of the University of Ghana, Legon has designed a certificate course in Tourism that is scheduled to commence this academic year.

A statement signed by Mrs Stella Appenteng, President of the Tour Operators Union of Ghana (TOUGHA), collaborators of the programme, said the course, drawn on eight modules aimed at offering Tourism Practitioners an academic ground in industry as well as management skills to build their business.

She said the course would run on part-time basis to afford participants the flexibility of working and studying at the same time, adding Professors from various disciplines would also participate. Professor Takyiwaa Manu, Director of the Institute of African Studies, said she believed the course was unique, according to the statement.

"It will equip participants with the requisite knowledge in the industry and also help them to design new products and services". It would target Tour Operators, Travel Agents, Tour Guides, Hoteliers, District Assemblies, Airline Officials and other practitioners, whose activities and businesses related to travel and tourism.
