In 2015, a year after some African countries had been severely hit by the deadly Ebola, leaving in its wake a long train of victims, American business magnate Bill Gates appears to have warned the world of a graver epidemic.

In a video sighted by GhanaWeb, the co-founder of Microsoft noted that although the greatest threat to humanity when he was growing up was nuclear war, the narrative is different now since it would be taken over by a virus.

"If anything kills over 10 million people in the next few decades, it's most likely to be a highly infectious virus rather than a war”, he told an audience at TEDx

Additionally, Mr Gates cited the Spanish flu of 1918 which killed more than 30 million people as an example of what could happen if there was an epidemic.

Since its outbreak in Wuhan, Hubei, China, in December 2019 the coronavirus has obtained astronomical numbers with 190,837 recorded cases globally.

The disease which has been described as a pandemic by the World Health Organisation has recorded a mortality rate of 7,528 casualties and a total of 80,889 patients recovering.
