Gender Need To Be Addressed By Policies

Accra, - 4 June Mrs Ama Benyiwa-Doe, Deputy Minister of Employment and Social Welfare, today said gender issues need to be fully integrated in the employment policies of the country to enhance female participation in economic integration. This, she said, could be done through the adoption of a multi-sectoral national policy in the field of social services geared towards the economic integration of women. Mrs Benyiwa-Doe said this at the opening of a five-day seminar on ''enterprise creation'' in Accra. The seminar, under the auspices of the Federation of Business and Professional Women and sponsored by the Friedrich Naumann Foundation, is being attended by more than 30 women entrepreneurs. Topics to be treated at the seminar for mostly small-scale entrepreneurs, include ''business opportunity identification and guidance'', ''management in small enterprises and sources of business information and support''. Mrs Benyiwa-Doe said in spite of various efforts by government and non-governmental organisations to empower women in the productive process, women continue to be marginalised on the labour market.
