NDC mourns death of urologists

Accra, Aug. 30, GNA - The National Democratic Congress (NDC) on Tuesday expressed shock and deep regret over the tragic death of three medical doctors in a motor accident.

The NDC said the effect of the deaths of the medical experts of the Urology Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital was a serious setback to efforts to develop as a nation.

This was contained in a release signed by the acting General Secretary of the NDC, Mr Bede Ziedeng to express the Party's condolences to the relatives of the deceased and staff of the Hospital. The NDC described the victims as patriotic and illustrious doctors who put out their best skills at the service of Ghana. "It is most unfortunate that we have to lose such valuable national assets under such avoidable circumstances." The NDC said the rate of motor accidents had increased alarmingly resulting in the unnecessary loss of lives, which had resulted in the delay in development of the country.

Professor J.M.K. Quartey, Dr Isaac Bentsi and Dr Benjamin Osei-Wiafe died in the accident last Saturday in the latest highway fatality on the Bunso-Apedwa stretch of the Accra-Kumasi road. The three were part of a medical team returning from an outreach programme at the Sunyani General Hospital.
