Rev cautions politicians against foul play

Ejura (Ash), Aug 26, GNA - Rev Dr Kojo Osei-Wusuh, the President of the Ghana Baptist Convention, has cautioned politicians against the tendency of using foul means to undo their political opponents.

He warned that the politics of lies, mischief, sabotage, egocentricism and expediency that seemed to be gaining roots posed a serious danger to the survival of democracy and speedy economic development.

Rev Osei-Wusuh said this at the opening of the 42nd annual session of the Ghana Baptist Convention at Ejura in the Ejura-Sekyeredumasi District on Thursday.

Leadership, ministers and foreign partners of the church are attending the four-day session.

Rev Osei-Wusuh said it was impossible for one party to solve the myriad of problems facing the country and that there was the need for all political parties to work together instead of maliciously always seeking to destroy one another.

He commended the government for its efforts at entrenching democratic rule in the country and the efficient handling of the economy that had attracted a lot of goodwill for the country.

Rev Osei-Wusuh, however, urged the government to redouble its efforts at wealth creation by giving serious attention to job creation. ''The unemployment situation in the country is becoming too embarrassing and even scandalous,'' he said and appealed to the government to implement the new educational reforms to help provide employable skills to the youth.

Rev Osei-Wusuh suggested to the government to seek funding to revive all state owned enterprises to help create jobs for the people. He appealed to the media to always be a little more discerning in their reportage and to be guided by the national interest. Dr Joshua Ayarkwa, the District Chief Executive for Ejura-Sekyeredumasi, in an address read for him, urged churches to redouble their efforts at instilling discipline and morality into the people.
