IoD Ghana trains journalists on good corporate governance

A total of forty-five journalists in the Volta and Oti Regions have received training on good corporate governance undertaken by the Institute of Directors, (IoD-Ghana).

The training forms part of strategic interventions to stimulate and sustain the culture of good corporate governance practices and effective leadership to enable media practitioners understand the tenets of good corporate governance which include integrity, transparency, accountability and ethical culture.

The move is in response to the identified shortcomings with regards to corporate governance and is being instituted in collaboration with various stakeholders which include the Ghana Journalist Association (GJA).

Strong corporate governance practices play an important role in upholding the reputation of the business community. Training and certifying individuals in this crucial area builds their capacity pivotally in better managing their respective institutions.

President of IoD-Ghana Mr. Rockson Dogbega noted during the event that IoD’s vision was to create awareness on good corporate governance as well as championing a positive revolution in its practice and the media is needed to change the narrative.

Mr Dogbega challenged beneficiaries to contribute in diverse ways to the shaping of corporate governance practices in the country, and maintain the values of integrity, transparency and ethical behavior, on which pillars the IoD and GJA have been mounted.

“You have been empowered to become good ambassadors of corporate governance. This training will better enable you to provide responsible reporting.” he said.

An IoD Council Member, Prof. John Aheto, entreated the beneficiaries to let humility and objectivity lead them to success.

“In everything you do, it’s your integrity, honesty and objectivity that count. You are the fourth realm of governance and to a large extent what we know depends on what the journalists do”, Prof. Aheto added.

The Volta and Oti Regional Chairman of GJA, Anthony Bells Kafui Kanyi commended IoD for such initiatives.
