Flashback: NLC to rebuild the country’s shattered economy – Lt. Gen. Ankrah

The second president of the Republic of Ghana, Lt. General Joseph Arthur Ankrah was captured in a footage celebrating the first anniversary of the downfall of Dr. Kwame Nkrumah exactly a year after he was overthrown from office.

According to Lt. Gen. Ankrah, who also served as Chairman of the National Liberation Council (NLC), the ‘downfall’ of former president Kwame Nkrumah meant good news to the Ghanaian economy.

Lt. Gen. Ankrah further explained that Kwame Nkrumah’s overthrow by the NLC “was to rebuild the shattered economy of the country”.

Gen. Ankrah served as Ghana’s president for three years; from 1966 to 1969 after overthrowing Dr. Kwame Nkrumah in a military coup d’état.

Col. E.K. Kotoka, Major A. A. Afrifa and the then Inspector-General of Police, Mr J.W.K. Harley were the masterminds of the revolution at the dawn of February 24, 1966, while Nkrumah was still on a peace mission in Asia.
