The management of the Ghana Railway Company (GRC) has denied that the area where the President resides, at Airport West, in Accra, is one of those high profile properties located close to the GRC rail-track at the Airport residential area.
The company recalled that the President's building was constructed and completed somewhere in the mid eighties, that is about 20 years ago, and there's nothing to suggest that the location breaches the 50 feet reservation on both the upper and lower ends of the company's rail-track at the airport residential area.
Revealing this to pressmen yesterday, Mr. Michael Adjei Anyetei, the Accra Area Engineer of the Ghana Railway Company noted that GRC has read with shock, suggestions in certain quarters that President Kufuor's residence, the Shangri-La hotel and Airport West Hotel (Hotel de Kufuor) among others, lie close to the GRC's rail lines at the Airport Residential area, for which reason they must be demolished, before the company carried out its planned exercise to evict those living within 50 feet radius of its track. According to Mr. Anyetei, the Ghana Railway Company recently took certain surveyors to the areas it had demarcated for demolition, adding, "I am pretty much aware that the President's residence, is not located within the first 50 feet reservation of our rail-tracks".
