The emergency staff who attended to the victim of Sunday’s police shooting at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium risk sanctions for referring the patient outside the hospital for a CT scan.

The fan was rushed to the tertiary referral facility after he sustained a ghastly rubber bullet hit to his right eye as police battled to hold back rampaging supporters who were unimpressed with match officiating.

The angered supporters would not hold back any punches insisting that the referee’s biased decisions led to the Asante Kotoko’s 1 – 0defeat to Berekum Chelsea.

This incident has however landed staff of the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital where the victim was rushed for medical care; in fresh trouble.

According to the hospital it was administratively wrong for the victim to be transferred to a private facility Spectra health imaging limited – for a CT scan when the hospital has equipment to carry out the same procedure.

Speaking on Kumasi based Ultimate FM's 'Cup Of Tea' segment of the station’s Breakfast Show, the Public Relations Officer of the KATH Kwame Frimpong insisted that the development was worrisome as the hospital has one of the best CT scan equipments in the country.

He detailed, “We have a functional scan, a Toshiba 128flash CT Scan which is one of the specs that we have in the country.”

He assured that investigations will begin swiftly into the development as management of the hospital takes strong exception to staff referring patients to private facilities for same medical care that can be administered at the tertiary referral facility.

Callers who contributed to the program recounted incidents where they had been referred for labs outside the hospital which is by far the only Tertiary referral facility serving Ashanti and its adjoining regions.
