The Brong Ahafo town of Techiman would today (Tuesday June 7, 2005) host the next ?wahala' demonstration, which the Committee for Joint Action (CJA) has been organizing since the announcement of fuel price increment in February this year.
Since then, the CJA has held two ?wahala matches in Accra, Ho, Wa and the latest one being held in the Ashanti Regional capital of Kumasi. Already, the CJA has given indication of going to the Western and Central Regions, after the Techiman ?wahala' demonstration. On his way to Techiman, a member of the CJA, Mr. Baba Jamal, in an interview with the media, stated that cooperation from all sectors have been encouraging. He also discounted claims that the CJA was shifting focus, adding that in their initial statement, they had four points against the Government.
Meanwhile, the police in Brong Ahafo have released a local organiser of the Committee for Joint Action in Techiman after his arrest last Sunday. Sulemana Owusu was arrested for assaulting someone who had said on air that the planned wahala demonstration in Techiman had been cancelled. The man identified as Uncle Ato, reported the assault on him to the police who picked up Sulemana. But the deputy commissioner of police in charge of the Brong Ahafo Region, Yaw Adu Gyimah in an interview with PeaceFM News indicated that the police are still investigating the matter.
