MP Appeals To Exams Council To Extend Payment Of Registration Fees

Accra Mr Solomon K. Akwetey, Member of Parliament for Suhum has appealed to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to extend the closing date for the payment of SSS examinations registration fees from May 31, this year to June ending. This will enable students whose parents could not meet the deadline to do so while those whose results have just been released and need to resit, will have enough time to raise the 80,000 cedis registration fee. Mr Akwetey who made the appeal in a statement to Parliament, said the inability of students to write the examinations may have serious psychological effect on the pupils, apart from retarding their progress in future. Most parents, particularly those in the rural areas, could not afford the registration fees within the given time frame and if nothing is done about it, a lot of students may not write this year's SSS examinations. Mr Akwetey suggested that in future payment of the fees should be spread over four school terms so that by the time the students get to the second term of the final year, their examinations fees would have been paid.
