The management of Newmont Goldcorp, has said the company has put in place measures to ensure no harm at its sites.

Francois Hardy, the Regional Senior Vice President of Newmont Goldcorp in the Ghana Business update, said the company has completed Safety Culture reviews across all the sites.

“As we focus on ensuring the absolute safety of our employees, communities and operations, we have been implementing lessons learnt from our safety experiences. I am happy to inform you that some of these initiatives and hard work are pointing us in the right direction on our safety journey.

“Just a couple of weeks ago, the Minerals Commission adjudged our Akyem mine as the Best Safe Mine in Ghana following an extensive and rigorous audit of 13 leading mining companies in the country.

“ Our Ahafo mine emerged overall winner of the Minerals Commission and the Ghana Chamber of Mines organized National Inter-Mine First Aid and Safety Competition. Ahafo’s community team also placed second in the Community First Aid contest,” he said.

He added: “While we celebrate these laurels, we are mindful of the task ahead to reach our goal of zero harm and are implementing initiatives in that regard.

“We have completed Safety Culture reviews across all our sites and are implementing actions to ensure improvement in our systems, symbols and behaviours.

“As we head towards year-end, let us all be extra careful and be each other’s keeper during the upcoming festive season.”
