Major Reshuffle In Military

President makes changes in top levels of Armed Forces
.. CDS, Lt. Gen. Seth Obeng Fired?

Accra, May 20, GNA -President John Agyekum Kufuor on Friday announced changes in the top hierarchy of the Ghana Armed Forces replacing the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) and Service Commanders.

A statement signed in Accra by Mr D.K. Osei, Secretary to the President, said the changes made by President Kufuor, who is also Commander-in-Chief of the Ghana Armed Forces, were on the advice of the Armed Forces Council and in consultation with the Council of State. The statement said Brigadier General J.B. Danquah has been promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed CDS.

Naval Commodore A.R.S. Nunoo has been promoted to the rank of Rear Admiral and appointed Chief of Naval Staff while Air Commodore J.O. Boateng has been promoted to the rank of Air Vice Marshall and appointed Chief of Air Staff.

The statement also announced changes in the positions in Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Intelligence.

It said Brigadier General S.A. Odotei has been promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed Chief of Army Staff while Brigadier General F. Adu Amanfor has been promoted to the rank of Major General and appointed Chief of Defence Intelligence, Ministry of Defence. "His Excellency the President has expressed his deepest gratitude on behalf of the government and people of Ghana to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff and the Service Commanders for the loyal and dedicated service to the nation over the last four years," the statement said.
