Chiefs of Ajena claim Mpakadan inner port site

The chiefs and elders of Ajena in the Asuogyaman District in the Eastern Region are claiming ownership of the land earmarked for the construction of the Mpakdan Inland Port along the Volta Lake.

At a press conference organized by the chiefs and elders of Ajena who preferred to call themselves as Ajena-Tafoman alleged that they are the owners of the land and demanded that they should be consulted on all issues concerning the Mpakadan Inland Port land.

Speaking at the press conference on behalf of the Chiefs and elders, Mr Kwaku Danso said they are not against the proposed inland port at Mpakadan as some persons are wrongly speculating but only want to claim what was theirs.

Mr Danso demanded that the chiefs and elders of Ajena should be consulted before the start of the construction of the inland port.

He said that they are the owners of the land at Mpakadan and not the people of Akwamufie.

Mr Danso said the Ministry of Railways, Ghana Port and Habour Authority and the Volta River Authority (VRA) had ignored them in all negotiations in relation to the acquisition of the land for the inland harbor and as a result the chiefs and elders of Ajena had written several letters to remind those institutions about the mistake but they have not responded and continue to deal with Akwamu Traditional Council.

He said the chiefs and elders of Ajena had therefore filed a write at the Koforidua High Court on the issue for resolution.

Mr Danso alleged that the chiefs and elders of Ajena have heard an unconfirmed rumor that the Akwamu Traditional Council had threatened that they would be sending land guards to protect the land earmarked for the inland port when construction begins and threatened that if Akwamufie goes on to implement the threat, the youth of Ajena would resist them.
