Policeman accused of raping suspect’s wife at Police Station interdicted

The Police administration has interdicted one of its officers at Manso Datano in the Ashanti Region for allegedly raping the wife of a suspect in custody, ABC News has gathered.

The interdiction of the embattled police officer follows his arrest and detainment after the wife of the suspect had accused him of forcibly having sex with her while she sought bail for her detained husband.

The officer is said to have raped the woman at the Manso Datano Police Station in the Amansie South District.

Reports suggest that the interdicted police officer offered accommodation to the suspect’s wife who had arrived late at the station only for him to sneak into her sleeping place deep in the night to have sex with her.

Narrating her ordeal in a radio interview with Kumasi based Nhyira FM, the victim said she hails from northern Ghana together with the husband and they have five children.

She said the husband moved to the Manso area in Ashanti in search of a job and she received information that he had been involved in a criminal case and had been detained in police cells for three days, so she travelled to the area in an attempt to secure bail for him.

She alleged that at night, the police officer offered her a room to sleep at the station and whilst there, the officer entered the room and raped her several times throughout the night.

She said although she resisted his action, the officer threatened that his husband would not be released if she denied him entry.

Reacting to the incident, the Ashanti Regional Police Command said it has taken the allegation seriously, hence its decision to interdict the said officer.

A statement signed by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), Mr Godwin Ahianyo, the Ashanti Regional Police PRO said the Police has commenced investigations into the matter and any subsequent update will be communicated to the general public.

The Police indicated strongly that it will not shield officers who involve themselves in criminality in line with the policy of the Inspector General of Police and the Police Administration.

“We are by this message advising the victim to report immediately to the Regional Police Headquarters to assist in the investigation,” the statement said.
