Persons with disability receive funds to support business ventures

Fifty nine persons with disability in the Bolgatanga Municipal Assembly
have received cheques under the Disability Fund to undertake various income
generating activities.

The funds, totaling GH¢30,600.00, is meant to support beneficiaries to carry out livestock rearing and basket weaving.

Mr Joseph Amiyuure, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), prior to the presentation of the cheques, reiterated government’s efforts at ensuring that persons with disability had sustainable livelihoods instead of begging on the streets.

He advised the beneficiaries to put the funds to good use to expand their businesses.

Ms Naomi Panwum, the Officer at the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI), who took beneficiaries through some business management skills, urged them to put the money into activities that would generate income and grow their businesses.

Madam Mercy Pamvuri, the Regional Director, Department of Community Development and Social Welfare, asked them to inform other colleagues who were unaware of the Fund to apply by accessing the forms free of charge from the Department.

She informed members who suffered epilepsy and mental challenges to take along their health cards when reporting for their money.

According to her, in 2018, the Assembly disbursed GH¢105,000.00 to 115 people with disability, however owing to the split of the Assembly the money for this year reduced.

Mr John Asakenaba from Tanzui, a suburb of Bolgatanga and a visually impaired retired teacher of the Awogeya Primary School, and a father of five, said he would put the money into rearing of animals to enable him to take care of himself and his family.

Ms Sussana Alanura Agana, a beneficiary, said her money would enable her to carry out and improve on her basket weaving venture.
