I’ve been hungry in life before - Ursula Owusu recounts her painful past

The Minister of Communications, Mrs Ursula Owusu Ekuful has revealed that she was once a charcoal seller and hungry but that education has transformed her to who she is today.

Despite being the charcoal seller, she recounted how she was able to learn hard to achieve her dream of becoming a lawyer urging students not to allow the current challenges they are confronted with stop them from pursuing their dreams.

The Minister who was addressing over 900 basic students as part of Girls in ICT Day Mentorship workshop at the University of Cape Coast (UCC), organized by the Ministry of Communications said, “I was just like you so if I have been able to make it this far….nothing stops you from even achieving more than I have achieved because you have more opportunities than I had”.

Mrs Ursula Owusu who doubles as a Member of Parliament (MP) for Ablekuma West and Women’s Rights Activist encouraged the students to follow their dreams and not to kill them.

The two-day workshop which was held under theme “Expanding Horizon and Changing Attitude “attracted 980 basic school students selected from 14 districts in the Central Region with the aim to encourage and empower girls to consider studies in Information and Communication Technology (ICT).

The Minister called on parents, teachers and the general public to encourage girls to take an interest in the study of Science subjects and consider a career in ICT to promote access to ICT among girls and teachers in the country.

Her ministry she promised, will do everything possible to support the future leaders to acquire the digital skills that they need to succeed within this digital world.

About five women role models selected from the country’s ICT sector interacted with beneficiary students on growing and rewarding career in ICT
