Akufo-Addo used ‘flimsy excuses’ to ‘dodge’ Hogbetsotso in 2017, 2018, 2019 – NDC’s Elikem Kotoko

President Nana Akufo-Addo President Nana Akufo-Addo

An activist of the largest opposition party the National Democratic Congress and a failed aspirant for NDC National Youth Organizer, Elikem Kotoko is accusing President Akufo-Addo of avoiding the Hogbetsotso festival for three years running.

According to the NDC social media activist, President Akufo-Addo always finds “flimsy excuses” anytime the people of Anlo invite him for the festival.

Elikem wondered why the president managed to go the Volta Region right after the festival had ended.

“President Akufo-Addo was specially invited to the Hogbetsotso festival which is the singular biggest festival in the Volta region and for three consecutive years (2017, 2018, 2019) he has turned down that invitation with very flimsy excuses, one of such is that which was given yesterday; “the president had to attend some meeting at Peduase {Certainly this must be more important than any such even in the Volta region}” he wrote.

“Instead, the president in his supposed “wisdom” delegated his National Security and Regional Ministers, Kan Dapaah and Dr Letsah respectively to the function,” he added.

“In less than 24-hours after the Hogbetsotso festival, President Akufo-Addo is already in Ho, the Volta Region to embark on some days of a supposed Regional your. One will ask the President, will he have the time to visit the Volta now. Another question for the Voltarians is if they will throng the streets to welcome this same Akufo-Addo who didn’t find their Hogbetsotso festival worthy of his attendance, for three (3) consecutive years?”

The controversial NDC activist also faulted the Otumfuo Asantehene for not making it there in person but instead sent the Mamponghene.

“I was surprised however that he Ashanti Chief, Otumfuo Osei Tutu equally failed to Honour the invitation himself as a reciprocal gesture towards that of the Anlo Chief recently. He also sent the Mamponghene (who frankly represented the Chief very well) and even arrived in a palanquin.”

“I am still wondering WHY my Chief, Torgbui Sri didn’t also arrive at the programme in a palanquin as expected by many, at such a grand occasion and being the host... All the same, it was such a success with the presence of our former president His Excellency Mahama and his former Ministers as well as MPs,” he ended.
