‘Spillage videos in circulation not of Bui dam’ – BPA

Bui Power Authority Bui Power Authority

The Bui Power Authority (BPA) has said some videos in circulation on social media showing areas in the Savanna Region flooded are not a consequence of the spillage of excess water from the dam since BPA’s planned controlled-spillage is scheduled to take place on Wednesday, 23 October 2019.

A few days ago, the BPA announced a planned controlled-spillage of water at the Bui Generating Station (BGS) from 21 October 2019 for a period of five to 10 days.

However, the CEO for the BPA, Mr Fred Oware explained in a press release on Tuesday, 22 October 2019, that: “…The pictures are unrelated to the watercourse of our river at the downstream”, adding: “The controlled-spillage is yet to be undertaken”.

He said the BPA will “undertake the controlled-spillage if observed inflows exceed what the reservoir can accommodate”, noting that based on their projections, the controlled-spillage will be undertaken on Wednesday, 23 October 2019.
