GIJ yet to receive GHC 10,000 cash prize after winning National Media Games

The Institute of Media Practice, organizers of the National Media Games are yet to pay the cash prize of GHC 10,000 cedis to winners, Ghana Institute of Journalism (GIJ) months after the tournament.

GIJ was crowned champions at the maiden edition of the National Media Games at the El-Wak Stadium on Saturday, August 17, 2019.

GIJ emerged champions in three distinctive sporting disciplines which earned them the overall team at the National Media Games. The top West African Communication school was victorious in Athletics, Volley Ball and Football.

The Media Games was heavily participated by Media General, New Times Corporation, Ghana News Agency, Class Media Group, Global Media Alliance, Ghana Broadcasting Corporation, AUCC, NAFTI, GIJ and other teams.

Although it was reported by several media houses that the GIJ was awarded a cash prize of GH¢ 10,000 and a trophy, the school and participants are yet to receive same.

According to the GIJ-SRC Sports Commission, after the games, the organizers promised to deposit the money in their account but two months down the line they are yet to receive a penny.

They complained that all efforts to get the money from the organizers have proven futile.
