I’ve no presidential ambition – Domelevo

Ghana’s Auditor-General (A-G), Mr Daniel Yaw Domelevo, has stated that he has no interest in running for president or entering politics whatsoever.

Mr Domelevo said in an interview aired on Wednesday that he is a professional whose skills and competence are in the field of accounting and, so, not at all interested in politics, stating: “I have not addressed my mind to any political ambition as of today”.

“It has never crossed my mind”, he said, adding: “I personally think politics is a bit too much for me, especially the way we do politics in Africa and Ghana, in particular. I don’t think I am cut out for it,” he told Blessed Sogah on Class91.3FM’s ‘State of the Nation’ programme.

He was responding to comments suggesting that a presidential office will befit him considering his strong stance against corruption and principles on protecting the public purse.

While commending the anti-corruption efforts of Mr Domelevo and Special Prosecutor Martin Amidu, earlier this month, the Executive Director of the Media Foundation for West Africa (MFWA), Mr Suleman Braimah, in a post on his Facebook page on 2 October 2019, said: “I will quit my job to join such a movement and their campaign team”.



But Mr Domelevo insists: “I am a professional person and I will like to stick to my profession”.

He explained that sometimes when people excel in a particular field, their superior authorities give them roles that do not befit their competence, and when the person fails, “Then we start shooting at him forgetting that we have elevated him to his level of incompetence”.
