Global Environmental Vanguard leads fight against sanitation

The Global Environmental Vanguard, a social and ecological protection group stormed the Ashaiman Municipality to sensitize residents on unsanitary and environmentally unfriendly practices in the locality.

The exercise, dubbed “Achieving a safe environment for all’’ was done in collaboration with the Ashaiman Municipal Assembly and the Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) on Saturday, September,7.

Ashaiman is one of the communities battling with sanitation and other environmental issues including noise pollution, open defecation, poor disposal of waste to mention a few.

The exercise which had participants travelling through the main Ashaiman township through the Ashaiman market to the Police park was climaxed with a mini durbar to sensitize the community on sanitation management.

Mr Francis Apai Tetteh, Coordinator of the Global Environmental Vanguards, advised Ghanaians to eschew poor sanitation and environmental practices and consciously make an attitudinal change adjustments to effect the change they want to see in their municipality.

“Making Ghana the Cleanest Country in Africa can’t be achieved without you playing a major role. Let’s stop waiting and blaming government for the filth around us,” he said in his address to the gathering.

The Chairman of the Ashaiman GPCC, Rev. David Dorsu, also urged Ghanaians to collaborate and support the Global Environmental Vanguards to fight challenges associated with filth and cautioned them against politicizing anything related to sanitation management in the country.

Deputy Spokesperson, National Chief Imam, Dr. Abubakari Mohammed Marzuq Azindoo, who represented the Chief Imam at the event, said the Chief Imam is fully behind the group to achieve their goals.

He added that, Islam is one of the religion that aligns with cleanliness as a crucial aspect of worship, therefore the need for every Muslim to support this initiative and practice good sanitary conditions wherever they find themselves.
