The Inspector-General of Police, Mr James Oppong-Boanuh has praised Director-General of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), COP Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah (CID) for leading a very hardworking team of CID personnel of the Ghana Police Service.

According to him, the CID is doing very well contrary to what a section of Ghanaians think underscoring the need for the department not to be ignored in the scheme of affairs in the police administration.

“Every society has got its own fair share of crimes committed…whether they are minor or serious is another matter. Therefore it is important that when crimes are committed they are detected or investigated and we can only ignore the CID at our own peril. I must say that the CID is doing very very well”, he disclosed at the commissioning of an elevator for the six-storey building housing the CID Headquarters.

The Police Chief said “the Criminal Investigation Department is one of the most important directorates of the Ghana Police Service as it is in other policing society in any other jurisdiction. We can do all the police patrols we need to do, we can do other policing duties that we can but there is no society in which crimes are not committed”

Mr James Oppong-Boanuh appealed to the CID to use the facility for the intended purpose and cultivate the habit of maintaining it in order to stand the test of time; urging them to consider improving on other structures to ensure that they are disability friendly .

The CID Headquarters building, which has been in use since the 1990s has been without an elevator for almost three decades. Under the leadership of the 32nd Director General COP Mrs. Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo – Danquah, an elevator was constructed for the six-storey, with financial support from the National Lottery Authority (NLA).

Construction of the CID Headquarters building started in 1979 and was completed in the early 1990’s. Prior to the construction, the staff of the CID Headquarters worked from offices at Accra Central, close to the present Accra Regional Police Headquarters. They later moved to the main Headquarters before moving into the present offices, which shares a compound with the National Police Headquarters.
