Ahwenie Festival launched

The Kwabre East Municipal Assembly, in collaboration with the chiefs and people, has launched the Ahwenie Festival, aimed at fostering unity for development in the area.

The climax of the festival is scheduled for September, during which a number of members of the diplomatic corps would be invited.

The festival is expected to promote development to positively affect the individuals and all the citizenry, for which plans are being made to mentor the young ones to take the mantle as those future belongs to for continuity.

It is also to create a ready market with purely designed Kwabre Kente in protecting the value and trademark from the area.

Dr. Yaw Adu Gyamfi, President of the Association of Ghana Industries (AGI) and a native from the area who was the Chairman for the occasion, entreated all citizens both home and in the diaspora to unite and attract investors to the Municipality towards total development.

He noted that every community in the municipality needed infrastructural development like hospitals and schools, which cannot be provided singlehandedly by the government, hence, the need to come together as one and undertake such projects.

He urged them to see unity as paramount and key to the development they need, in order to improve their living standards, and pleaded with the chiefs (Nananom) to make land available to establish industrial park to display the products from the municipality to attract both local and foreigners to patronise, which would serve as income and foreign exchange for individuals and the government.

He challenged Nananom and the Assembly to assist teachers in the municipality to enable them do their best in helping the students, as an avenue to improve the standard of education.

Nana Osei Bonsu, Municipal Chief Executive, commended Nananom and all stakeholders who participated to make the occasion a success, and pleaded with Nananom to sustain the festival as an annual affair.

Mr. Anthony Kusi, the consultant of the festival, announced that there were plans to collaborate with the Forestry Commission to plant trees, which could sustain the carving industry and make it viable at all times.
