Mentor your children on how to invest wisely – Nana Konadu

Former First lady, Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings has observed that it is good for parents in the country to inculcate the habit of investment in their wards so they can have a better future.

“As parents, try to impart the habit of good savings in your children at an early age”, the Former First Lady said this in a speech read on her behalf by Mrs Matilda Akom, Headmistress of Ayiduase M/A Basic School at the 19th Graduation Ceremony held at John William Montessori School in Tanoso – Kumasi.

Investing with financial institution in Ghana in recent years has become problematic as most people who invested their monies with some companies lost their investments.

It has however created a state of insecurity and mistrust when it comes to investing money, especially with financial institutions.

This year alone, at least 100 microfinance institutions have been closed down by the Central Bank while some banks Ghanaians trusted collapsed forcing the regulator to consolidate a number of them.

But, Mrs Rawlings who still believes investing with credible institutions can help parents in educating their wards, insisted that since education itself has become expensive, parent must help children to inculcate the habit of saving for the future.

“Educating our children demands a lot of financial investment and as parents, we need to prepare our children for the future financially. Teaching them moral lessons about managing their finances is by putting money aside like opening a bank account for them”. Mrs Agyemang Rawlings counselled.

“As parents, try to impart the habit of good savings to your children at an early age. As we are all aware, our children could be our potential pediment in life”. She adds.

A Former United Nations (UN) Financial Officer and co-founder of John William Montessori School (JWMS), Nana Fosu Randal also took the opportunity to advise parents to strongly motivate their wards in presuming their talents.

According to her, while helping their children to choose their various careers for the future, they must at all cost not try to influence their wards’ decision on which job or profession they intend doing.
