City Campus launches magazine

Accra, Feb. 25, GNA - The Accra City Campus (ACC) of the University of Ghana on Friday celebrated its first Students' Representative Council (SRC) anniversary week with the launch of a news magazine that would serve as a mouthpiece for students. The 24-page maiden magazine dubbed: "City Campus Watch" captures the history and essence of the Centre's establishment, and other pertinent domestic and national issues from the perspective of students.

Launching it, Professor John S. Wiredu, Principal of the ACC commended the students for their ingenuity and especially when most of them were working students. He said the magazine would contribute in small measure to the Centre's development and urged the SRC, especially incoming executives to put in their best to ensure that they sustained its publication.

Prof Wiredu called for a review of the academic calendar at the ACC to accommodate extra curricular activities similar to those on the main Campus at Legon. He said there was the need also for the authorities to work out modalities that would make the ACC become a model university that could be replicated countrywide.

Mrs Beatrice Oduro, Educationist, Ministry of Education, challenged the students to carry the ACC to a greater height saying, " As students the onus lie on you to make the Centre what it ought to be as far as the dreams of the Centre are concerned". She said the ACC's success largely would inform the university authorities of the need to replicate other centres elsewhere in the regional capitals.

Mrs Cynthia Opoku-Manu, SRC President said, "It has been with great efforts, team work and determination that the magazine was born". She urged students to contribute their quota towards its sustainability.
