First phase of Tema Port expansion project officially handed over

The first phase of the Tema Port Expansion Project has been handed over to the operational team by the construction team.

At a simple ceremony on Friday, June 28, 2019, the project team symbolically handed over the key of the facility to the operational team.

Present at the ceremony were the Director General of the Ghana Ports and Harbors' Authority, the Director of the Port of Tema, the CEO of MPS, the Sector Commander of the Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority and the Metropolitan Chief Executive of Tema.

"We are happy to be a part of this project, which is a part of the Port Authority's master plan," the Director-General of GPHA, Michael Luguje expressed at the occasion.

"This is a wonderful day for Ghana, a wonderful day for GPHA, MPS, Bolore, APMT, Customs, Freight forwarders and the whole entire port community. The construction team has done a wonderful job. I am appreciative of the Ghanaian Authorities and Government for giving us this opportunity," MPS CEO, Mohammed Samara added.

The first Commercial vessel to the site is expected on Wednesday, 3rd of July, 2019. The vessel called MV Cape Coast was named at the Port of Tema.
MV Cape Coast’s arrival follows series of simulations with an earlier training vessel called MV Nikolaos which was perfectly piloted by the marine team of GPHA into the new Terminal.
