After beating Hearts of Oak to qualify to the finals of the Special Competition, head coach of Asante Kotoko C K Akonnor has stated his side was fortunate to get an early goal to unsettle their opponents as they were made to chase the ball after.

According C K Akonnor, they knew Hearts of Oak could possess the ball very well so they needed to keep the ball and prevent the Phobians from having more of the balls but they failed to do that after jumping into the lead.

“We knew Hearts could possess the ball very well and at a point in time we had to chase the ball which made us very tired.

“What we needed to do was to keep the ball which we couldn’t. We were fortunate to have gotten that early goal and one thing that we did well was to defend well,” he added.

C K Akonnor also explained the reason for playing Amos Frimpong in midfield.

“Amos Frimpong is an experienced player, and of late we have been having problems at that position and since he can hold on to the ball, we gave him that new role and he did very well,” he told the media after the game.

Asante Kotoko will face Karela United in the finals of the tier one league.
