Muslim youth in the country especially in the Ningo-Prampram District have been advised against joining terrorist and extremist groupings.

They should rather contribute to the peaceful coexistence between Christians and Muslims and the overall development of the country.

Activities of terrorists who claim to be Muslims have triggered fear among African countries especially, Christians as they have attacked a number of churches, killing several people and destroying church properties within the past months.

Mr Jonathan Teye Doku, Ningo-Prampram, District Chief Executive, who gave the advice said Islam does not preach violence therefore its youthful adherents should not allow unscrupulous persons to indoctrinate them into perpetrating violence against others especially Christians.

Mr Doku gave the admonishment when he presented 51 bags of rice, 51 cartons of oil and 30 boxes of canned tomato paste to the Muslim community on behalf of the government.

He said it was refreshing that Ghana was having a Christian president and Muslim vice-president which showed the unity that existed among the two major religious groups in the country and called on Ghanaians to emulate and maintain that coexistence.

The Ningo-Prampram DCE also urged the Muslim leadership and Imams to make it a point to always preach and educate their members against violent activities.

He also urged Ghanaians to desist from branding all Muslims as violent people due to the happenings in other countries as according to him, it would be unfair to refer to Christians and other religious groupings as criminals if some of their members strayed into criminal activities.

Touching on the presentation, he noted that the gesture was a token from the government to the Muslims for their tenacity to go through the Ramadan during which they fasted and prayed for the state and district.

He added that Nipda, under his leadership, had resolved to help and support the local Muslim community and had therefore constructed an Islamic school for them in Prampram with additional ones to be sited at Afienya, Dawhenya and Old Ningo.

Imam Ibrahim Tetteh-Djan, Imam of Prampram, received the items on behalf of the Muslims, and thanked the government for the support saying it would go a long way to help the poor and needy to also celebrate the Eid.
