President Nana Akufo-Addo’s promise to make Ghana’s capital the cleanest in Africa will happen by the time he ends his second term in office, the Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources has said.

Mrs Cecilia Abena Dapaah told journalists on Tuesday, 23 April 2019 when she took her turn at the Meet The Press series in Accra that: “The President will go for two terms and at the end of that term, Accra would have been [the cleanest city] and we are on course”.

According to her, “God is in control and the battle is still the Lords”, as far as achieving the president’s 24 April 2017 promise is concerned.

The president, she said, has “put the Ministry of Sanitation and Water Resources on the top priority list of the government to be able to access all the budget that it needs”.

The President made that pledge in an address he delivered after he had been installed a chief by the people of Jamestown and the Ngleshie Alata Traditional Council under the title Nii Kwaku Abladey Okudzeaman I, which means ‘Royal Warrior who champions the welfare of his people’.

The pledge was thus: “The commitment we are making and which I want you all to make with me is that by the time we end our four-year term, Accra is going to be the cleanest city in Africa,” he stated.
