A 26-year-old butcher, in court for allegedly harming his neighbour in one eye with an object, has been remanded into prison custody, by the Nkawie Circuit Court, in the Atwima-Nwabiagya District of Ashanti.

Mohammed Adams, alias “The Don”, was said to have been angered to commit the act, when the neighbour refused to give him the GH?20.00 he demanded from him.

He pleaded not guilty to the charge and the case has been adjourned to April 26, this year in a court presided over by Mr Michael Johnson Abbey.

Prosecuting, Police Inspector Ruth Gborson told the Court that the complainant, Abdul Rahman, was a driver residing at Abuakwa-Manhyia, whiles the accused resides at Abuakwa-Canaan, near Kumasi.

She said in February this year, the complainant went to the Abuakwa police station to visit a relative and met accused detained in police cells over an alleged theft.

The Prosecution said the accused then pleaded with the complainant, to help him secure a bail for him, to which complainant declined.

She said on April 7 this year, at about 2130 hours, Adams, after having been granted bail from the police cell by someone else, met the complainant in front of the Atwima-Mponua Rural Bank at Abuakwa and again demanded GH?20.00 from the complainant.

The complainant refused and the accused became offended and hit his eye with an object, resulting in a deep cut and profused bleeding.

Inspector Gborson said the complainant rushed to the nearby police station and made a report.

The accused was arrested and in his cautioned statement admitted hitting the complainant with his hands.

He was charged and brought before the Court.
