Lecturer installed queen of Banka

A Political Science lecturer at the Knutsford University College in Accra, has been installed the queen of Banka in the Asante-Akim South Municipality, amidst superlative traditional pomp and pageantry.

Known in private life as Nana Ama Ampofowaa Twumasi, the new queen with the stool name Nana Anima Basahyia Framo I, succeeded Nana Adwoa Agyekumwaa, who passed on last year.

After swearing the oath of allegiance to the chief of Banka, Osabarima Tweampomah III, the newly-installed queen, adorned in a traditional war smock, was carried shoulder high and paraded through the streets of the community.

The Banka community, drowned in deafening sounds of traditional drumming, firing of musketry and traditional lyrics, to signify the installation of a successor to the late queen, was also thrown into a state of joy, as she was subsequently out doored at a colourful durbar.

The traditional event was witnessed by thousands of people including indigenes, co-workers, family and well-wishers.

The new Bankahemaa, was chosen among eight women heir apparent, who expressed interest to succeed the late queen.

She pledged to serve the chief and people of Banka wholeheartedly with diligence, saying that, she saw her new role as service to humanity.

Nana Framo I, is an educationist who has taught for many years in various basic and second cycle schools, in her illustrious career as a teacher.

She is currently the Dean of Students and Director of Quality Assurance at the Knustford University College and intends to promote education in the community, as an educationist.

Nana Framo, in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) after swearing the oath of allegiance, underlined her resolve to sensitize the people on the need to prioritize the education of their children.

She said education was a catalyst for development and it was important to educate children in the community, adding that, she would rely on the collective efforts of the people especially women to pursue that agenda.

Osabarima Tweampomah praised his elders and all stakeholders for their support and cooperation during the selection and installation of the queen, which he said was peaceful.

He said the peaceful nature of the process demonstrated the commitment of the people of Banka to unity and development and urged the people to support the new queen.
