MCE cuts sod for construction of Wawase healthcare facility

Honourabel Municipal Chief Executive for Lower Manya Krobo in the Eastern region, Simon Kweku Tetteh has called on chiefs, opinion leaders and citizens of Wawase and surrounding communities to continue to support the government to succeed in its bid to extend developmental projects to various communities. The MCE said it was good for the government and other stakeholders to provide communities including health facilities, water, electricity supply, good roads, etc. to its citizens.

Honorable Tetteh gave the advice at Wawase, a farming community in the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal on Monday when he cut the sod for the construction of a healthcare facility for the people of the community to provide quality healthcare delivery to the people.

The residents are thus expected to soon have a fully equipped health care center to address their health concerns, said the MCE.

The Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly is funding the project, being executed by Julibok Constructions Limited and scheduled to be completed in three months’ time. The facility when completed would be equipped with modern facilities to offer healthcare services to residents of Wawase and surrounding communities including Aplah, Obelemanya, Nyinase, Aboben, Odornor, Piengua and Atrotrosi.

The absence of a health facility for residents of these communities forces them to access healthcare from distant health centers at Akosombo and Sappor. The absence of a reliable means of transportation to these places compounds the problem as residents have to trek long distances to send sick and expectant to nearby health facilities.

Health personnel including nurses would also be stationed in the community to ensure that they are available to handle emergency medical cases at all times.

The MCE said improving and expanding health facilities to make healthcare delivery more accessible in the country was the utmost priority of the government and gave the assurance that government would continue to support the health sector to grow.

Honourable Simon Kweku Tetteh who was accompanied by some party executives of the New Patriotic Party in the constituency and officials of the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly assured chiefs and opinion leaders from the adjoining communities who gathered to witness the sod cutting, of government’s continued commitment through President Akuffo Addo’s transformation agenda, to ensure the provision of further infrastructural needs for the people.

These include electricity supply, road construction, a solar powered mechanized borehole and two stand pipes being provided under government’s one million dollars per constituency program and a host of other projects.

Assembly member for Wawase, Mr. Gabriel Teye Kweku and Dadematse (Community Chief) of the area, Nene Yohannes Annor Tetteh were unanimous in their expression of appreciation to the MCE for his determination to bring development, particularly healthcare closer to their people.

The duo however called on the assembly chief to facilitate works on other dire infrastructural demands of the people including electricity supply, water, good roads and government subsidy on “expensive” farm inputs which farmers in the communities found unbearable.

Residents of these communities, in the absence of good sources of drinking water are also compelled to depend on an unhygienic water source for their domestic use, a situation residents find repulsive.
