Mr Glibert Kennedy Asmah, Municipal Chief Executive of Tarkwa-Nsuaem, has cut the sod for the commencement of the construction of six development projects.

The projects include the construction of a two-unit classroom block with ancillary facilities for Hooper Memorial school at Tarkwa, an eight-seater water closet toilet facility for Presbyterian school at Brenuakyim, mechanised boreholes at Nzemaline and Esuoso.

The rest are a three-unit classroom block, with an extension of living room and kitchen for the senior housemaster and a two-bay urinal for Benso Senior High Technical School.

At new and Old Cyanide, the assembly would convert all pan latrines to water closet toilet facility and rehabilitate five malfunctioning boreholes at Dompim Pepesa.

The projects would be funded from the Mineral Development Fund (MDF), District Assembly's Common Fund (DACF) and Internally Generated Fund (IGF).

The projects are expected to be completed between four and eight months. Handing over the site to the contractors at separate ceremonies, the MCE called on the beneficiary communities to own the projects and support the contractors to complete the projects on schedule.

Mr Asmah suggested that to maintain the bole holes and prevent its break down and abandonment, the community should pay a token fee as they fetched the water.

He noted that the rationale behind the sale of the water was to make funds available for the maintenance of the facility.

The MCE gave the assurance that the Municipal Works Engineer and staff of the Planning Unit would monitor the projects closely to ensure that they were executed according to specification
