Barcelona forward Kevin-Prince Boateng will not be part of Ghana’s squad for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, Black Stars coach Kwasi Appiah has said.

Calls for Boateng’s return to the Black Stars became more apparent after his shocking loan move to Barcelona in January.

In a recent interview with footballmadeinghana.com Black Stars midfielder Mubarak Wakaso added his voice to those clamouring for the return of the player who allegedly used unprintable words on Kwasi Appiah during the 2014 World Cup In Brazil.

Coach Kwasi Appiah himself in an earlier interview indicated his readiness to hand Boateng a call-up should he decide to apologise for his role in the infamous World Cup debacle.

It however appears that the grace period offered to the former AC Milan star has expired as coach Kwasi Appiah has said that he will not join the team to the AFCON which will be held in Egypt.

Kwasi Appiah told journalists in a post-match presser that the recommendations of the Dzamefe Commission placed a responsibility on the player to apologize to the nation.

He stated that had Kevin shown remorse before Ghana’s last AFCON qualifier against Kenya on Sunday, he would have been considered for selection but since the player decided not apologise he will not name him in his squad for the AFCON.

“In his case it has got to do the white paper of the Dzamefe Commission. There was an issue that Sulley and Kevin should apologize to the nation before they can be invited into the national team and I said that he is a good player because when I took over he was playing for Sassuolo and then I said if he takes the step then I will have the opportunity to invite him then he will play for all Ghanaians to assess to see if he can be of help to us but if but if that is not done and we’ve finished playing all our games before the AFCON then it will be difficult to give him a call up. So that’s the situation now” Kwasi Appiah said.

Kevin-Prince Boateng has been capped 15 times by the Black Stars with two goals to his credit.

The midfielder was handed an indefinite suspension by the GFA after the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. He has since not featured for the Black Stars.
