MTN Foundation builds ICT centre and library for New Juaben SHS

Mobile telecommunication giant, MTN has built an ultramodern library and ICT centre for the New Juaben Senior High School at Koforidua in the Eastern Region.

The facility can boast of full internet connectivity and teachers’ common room.

Financed through the MTN Foundation, the GHC602,000 facility replaces the poorly ventilated library that was stocked with obsolete books and gives the students and teachers the opportunity to enhance their digital knowledge.

The new library with a 200 seating capacity and the 20-seater ICT centre, is expected to give both students and the teaching staff better learning and teaching environment.

For five years, Huawei, partners for the project, will bear the cost of the high-speed internet being provided at the facility.

The commissioning of the facility brings to 144, projects funded by the MTN Foundation totaling GHC33 million.

Of the 144 projects across the country, 82 are in the educational sector, 26 ICT centres and four libraries.

The commissioning of the ultramodern library and ICT center at New Juaben Senior High School forms part of the MTN Ghana Foundation’s 10th Anniversary activities.

The Foundation is celebrating its anniversary under the theme “Celebrating Ten years of brightening lives, inspiring a brighter future.”

Chief Executive of MTN Ghana, Selorm Adadevoh, said “I believe this would give you the opportunity to learn in a different way to expand your digital knowledge about how things happen in different parts of the world and be part of that revolution.”

He said one of the biggest skills needed in the work is how to use tools online.

Headmaster of the school, Frank Obeng Wilson expressed his appreciation to the MTN foundation for the gesture.

He promised to make good use of the facility and assured of the school's commitment to maintaining it.
