I won't contest Akufo-Addo for NPP flagbearership - Boakye Agyarko

Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko has refuted reports suggesting he will contest President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo in the flagbearership race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).

According to Mr Boakye, the report is a complete fabrication by some faceless persons for mischievous purposes.

"Let me state without equivocation or the fear of contradiction that this is the product of an overheated imagination in their continued orchestration to tarnish my image."

Background to earlier reports

President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo-Addo will definitely have a good run for his money in his quietly-promoted bid to go for a second term.

Credible information available to Ghana Crusader indicates that President Akufo-Addo will have to fight off a keener but bloody internal challenge of protracted bickering from Former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko in the flagbearership race of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to be early opened next year.

Mr. Boakye Agyarko, who was recently axed by Akufo-Addo from the Energy Ministry over an obnoxious revised Ameri power deal which attracted public outcry and condemnation, is understood to be lacing his boots in the form of doing broad-based consultations within and without the NPP.

The presidential ambitions of Mr. Agyarko came to light in a recent private discussion he had with his inner team members and which recording has been intercepted by the Ghana Crusader news.

In the tape recording, Mr. Agyarko is heard loudly boasting of his wealth of experience and background.

In the tape recording, Mr. Agyarko absolves himself of any wrongdoing in the revised Ameri deal, shifting the blame squarely on President Akufo-Addo, his brother Bumpty Akufo-Addo and the 17-member committee chaired by legal practitioner Philip Addison.

“On his presidential bid, Mr. Agyarko will be meeting ex-president Agyekum Kufuor, former Chief of Staff Kwadwo Mpiani and other party bigwigs in the Ashanti region in order to rally their support,” a very reliable source disclosed.

The source said the chiefs and people of Krobo-Edumase will be the starting point of garnering support, as that enclave in the Eastern region is where Mr. Agyarko’s mother hails from. The source added that the former Energy Minister will then head to the United States of America, a place he had lived for 25years as a political refugee to reconnect his links and cement relationships in the new agenda going forward.

Our checks reveal Mr. Agyarko has a strong presence there as he is on record to have played crucial roles in making relevant the USA and North America chapters of the NPP.

Mr. Agyarko was born in 1956 in Kumasi to Mr. Kwasi Agyarko, a merchant and a United Party activist who hails from Jamasi in the Ashanti region while his mother Jane Ladze Padi, a teacher, comes from Krobo-Odumase in the Eastern region.
