American lower-tier side Richmond Kickers FC snap up Wahab Ackwei

Ghanaian defender Wahab Ackwei has joined third-tier outfit side Richmond Kickers FC ahead of the upcoming campaign.

Ackwei joins the Virginia-based side on Thursday as a free agent.

The 22-year-old was without a club after terminating his contract with New York Red Bulls II by mutual consent in 2018.

The former Inter Allies centre-back provided an assist in seven appearances for New York Red Bulls in the 2018 USL Championship.

Ackwei becomes the third Ghanaian in the club ranks after Amass Amankona and Charles Boateng who joined them from WAFA SC last week.

He was one of the highly-rated center-backs in the Ghana Premier League three seasons ago.
