Amass Ghana condemns shooting in Chereponi, calls for calm

Amass Ghana, a conflict resolution and peace building Non-Governmental Organisation (NGO), has denounced the shoot out in Chereponi in the North East Region that claimed the life of one person.

The renewed violence in Chereponi also resulted in some communities belonging to both Konkombas and Chokosis burnt.

Reports stated that police is making efforts to engage the leadership of both ethnic groups.

However, the group in a communique, said the "distasteful" act must be condemned in no time.

"Amass Ghana would pause to call on both groups, Chokosis and Konkombas to return to the peace table, it's still not too late."

The NGO called on the District Security Council (DISEC), the Ministry of National Security, the Ministry of Interior and all the relevant stakeholders in security to join reins in resolving the impasse.

We at Amass Ghana, centre for peace building and conflict resolution, find it distasteful the last Friday, March 15, shooting in Chereponi in the North East Region that claimed the life of one person.

The deceased, though a Togo national died on Ghanaland in a renewed unrest between Chokosis and Konkombas and the shooting incident must be condemned in no time.

We are also neutralising our hearts to wish speedy recovery to the dozens of victims who are currently receiving medical treatment as a result of the impasse.

May the affected families whose buildings are set ablaze receive abstract respite.

Ghana needs peace in the north. The world needs peace through international co-operation and northern Ghana could not afford our dear country to lose out in the comity of nations.
