President Kufuor Attends Watch Night Service

Accra, Jan.1, GNA - President John Agyekum Kufuor on Friday joined worshippers at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Accra for the Watch Night service.

He was accompanied by his wife Theresa and some Ministers of State to the Service which was attended by a very large number of people. One of the Ministers remarked: "I think most Catholics in Accra now worship at the Christ the King".

Canopies, seats, loudspeakers and lights were provided outside for the worshippers who could not have access to the chapel. The advent of the New Year, there was joy and merry making among the worshippers, who shook hands and hugged each other for a peaceful entry into the year 2005.

The Very Reverend Father Stephen Adu-Kwanin, Vicar-General of the Catholic Arch-Diocese of Accra, in a sermon said Ghanaians should have the hope that all would not be lost in the coming year.

He said from the beginning of the year 2004, the Lord had been good to most Ghanaians, therefore, "the watch-night is a good time for us to go through our activities for the past year and critically examine how we responded to the call of the Lord".

Very Reverend Father Adu-Kwanin, who is also the Parish Priest of Christ the King Church, said it was also a good time to make resolutions for the coming year.

"It is also an opportunity to ask for pardon for omissions and lack of love for one another and a good occasion for thanksgiving for what the Lord has given to each of us", he said.

He asked Ghanaians to make judicious use of their time in the coming year and examine their conscience on their obligations to the Church, State and their workplace and refrain from any social vices that affected the performance of their duties to the Lord and State in the past year.

"The year 2005 will be a good year, therefore, let us not waste any bit of our time", he said.
