Scrap Juicy Allowances For Pubic Office Holders

Accra, JoyOnline, Dec. 30 -- The Head of the Civil Service, Dr Alex Glover Quartey has advocated the scrapping of allowances for public office holders.

He said juicy allowances that come with positions in the public service are a disservice to the state and to the individuals that occupy them.

Dr Quartey is in his second years in office as boss of the civil service where he is pushing for a radical change in work ethics for efficiency.

He indicated that issues that affect civil service the most was of no interest to stakeholders adding that good salaries could only motivate efficiency for civil servants.

Conceding that civil servants, especially those in higher office, enjoy impressive allowances, the civil boss said civil service salaries are so pitiable that they were virtually reduced to paupers after retirement.

He noted that the impressive allowances were a detriment to government as well as the civil servant because the benefits are not added to the servant?s salary for the computation of his Pension.

?The Pension is based strictly on the basic salary of the civil servant?, he said.

He indicated that the service was going to monitor and put value on all incoming benefits of civil servants.
