Power is transient and there's always a 'day of reckoning' - Kwakye Ofosu tells NPP

Former Deputy Communications Minister in the erstwhile Mahama administration, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has strongly asserted that "hoodlums" and "band of thugs" who were contracted by their paymasters, the New Patriotic Party (NPP), to attack and inflict gun-shot wounds on members of the opposition NDC during Thursday's Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, will certainly not get away with it.

In a note of caution to the ruling NPP, Kwakye Ofosu reminded them that "power is transient" and "ultimately the people of Ghana who have seen these acts of ‘lawlessness’ will speak loudly" in the 2020 elections.

“...when they are out of power and they no longer have the ability to use power to protect these hoodlums, that is the day that they will realised that there is always a day of reckoning,” he charged on GhOne TV’s State Of Affairs program.

According to him, the NDC is unwilling to allow anybody to rollback all the gains they have made in the country’s democratic march.

“....We (NDC) didn’t come this far in our democratic march to surrender our rights to a band of thugs and a government that believes that in spite of coming to power through democratic way, they can behave like a despotic regime," he fumed.

To him, it is expected if such acts of lawlessness are recorded in Central Africa Republic where Bokassa was President and also in Zaire where Mobutu Sese Seko ruled, but certainly not in a country with a democratically elected President like Akufo-Addo.

He stressed that Ghanaians expected the government to guarantee them peace to cast their ballot in the by-election and not to undermine that peace; hence, the decision of the NDC to boycott the election.

“So let them be in denial all they want; we know what we saw...they decided to undermine the peace and that is the reason why we boycotted the election...we have beaten the NPP in 4 elections; we have absolute no fear of them electorally”, he stated.
