Mr Clement Wilkinson, the Ga West Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) has given the assurance that the government has put in place pragmatic measures to end begging of physically challenged persons on the streets.

He said some of the measures were to equip them with skills and items to enable them to undertake some income generating activities to earn a living.

Mr Wilkinson made the remark in an interview with the Ghana News Agency after presenting items including; popcorn machines, sewing machines, baking ovens, fridges and corn mills to over 50 disability persons from the municipality.

He noted that begging by persons with disability along the streets posed danger to their lives as they were sometimes knocked down by vehicles, hence the government intervention to help them engage in indoor trading.

The MCE said the donation was the first and that it would be continued to cover all physically challenged persons in the municipality.

Madam Esther Quansah, a beneficiary on behalf of her colleagues expressed gratitude to the government and Assembly for the support and that it would help them make a living.
