Northern NPP extolls Nana Addo

President Akufo-Addo President Akufo-Addo

The governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern Regional Secretariat has expressed its profound gratitude to President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for bringing to finality the Dagbang chieftaincy stalemate.

In a statement signed by the regional Chief Scribe, lawyer Sulley Sambian, the secretariat is overwhelmed by the President's display of political maturity and neutrality in handling the Dagbang chieftaincy stalemate.

The statement congratulated the new Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II on his elevation to the Dagbang Namship as the Overlord.

Below is the full statement:

NPP NORTHERN REGION

THANKS, H.E. NANA ADDO DANKWA AKUFO-ADDO FOR RESTORATION OF PEACE IN DAGBANG

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Northern Regional Secretariat profoundly thanks President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo for exhibiting good leadership and fulfilling his campaign promise of ensuring everlasting peace in the Dagbang Traditional Area.

The performance of funerals of the two overlords of Dagbang and the subsequent enskinment of Alhaji Abukari Mahama II as a substantive Yaa-Naa is a clear testimony of the President's exemplary leadership.

The President on several platforms reinforced his commitment to ensuring a peaceful resolution to the Dagbang chieftaincy issue.

In November 2018, the President at a durbar organised by the Nayiri, Overlord of the Mamprugu Kingdom reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that Dagbang regained its glory.

He repeated this at the Dakpema palace following the demise of Naa Dakpema Mohammed Dawuni Alhassan.

The President unequivocally stated that he was neither Abudu nor Andani for which reason he had no personal interest in the Dagbang chieftaincy issues.

True to his word, Dagbang has not only succeeded in performing the funerals, but there is a worthy successor to the late Naa Yakubu Andani II.

This has not only brought to an end, the over 30-year factional dispute between the two royal families but has equally brought to an end chieftaincy politics in the area.

The NDC always used the unfortunate death of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II as a major campaign tool in Dagbang and their hope has been dashed.

The Northern Region has been a theatre of political propaganda by the opposition NDC relative to chieftaincy causing a destructive toll for development

Today, President Nana Akufo Addo has gone down in history as having left an enduring legacy for Dagbang.

Thank you Mr. President, for this remarkable achievement.

You have not only succeeded in bringing abiding peace to Dagbong, but you have created jobs to Ghanaians through NABCO planting for food and jobs restoration of nurses allowances free SHS, the list can go on and on.

The political beneficiaries of the spoils of chieftaincy conflict would have a lot of work to do in 2020 because they never expected unprecedented record you have set.

They could not even pretend to support the path of peace when the road map was announced.

They selectively donated to the Andani gate when they were performing the funeral of the late Naa Yakubu Andani II.

They failed to honour the invitation by the Abudu gate. Unfortunately for them, the current Yaa Naa Abukari Mahama II promises to be a unifier of Dagbang.

Little wonder that his selection received an overwhelming endorsement by both gates.

We could only be prouder as Northerners now than ever.

Many were those who thought your campaign promise was just business as usual; many were those who thought that the promise of ensuring that there was a king in Dagbong was one hell of a pie in the sky; many of us thought it was an extremely risky political decision

The naysayers said it was not doable; the doomsayers and the pessimists said you will preside over bloodshed if you exercised that risky political will to have the funerals performed.

Indeed they foretold doom. You did not give up. Of course, you exhibited your "can do spirit" and this has paid off

The naysayers said it was not doable; the doomsayers and the pessimists said you will preside over bloodshed if you exercised that risky political will to have the funerals performed. Indeed they foretold doom. You did not give up. Of course you exhibited your "can do spirit" and this has paid off.

Sadly, these naysayers are now trying to reap where they have not sown.

These naysayers, doom preachers and the beneficiaries of Dagbong chieftaincy conflicts are trying desperately to associate themselves with this landmark achievement.

They have inundated the social media with fake pictures of John Mahama in a hearty hug with the current Yaa Naa trying to pass it off as a recent occurrence.

For the avoidance of doubt, Mr. Mahama has NOT visited the Yaa Naa.

The picture was taken several months ago when Mr. Mahama visited Savelugu constituency campaigning to lead the NDC as their flagbearer.

You have not only ensured we have a peaceful Dagbon, you have given us two more regions in the Northern Region.

-Signed-

Sulley Sambian
