Nkroful (W/R) Dec. 13, GNA - A leading member of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) in the Ellembele Constituency, Mr. John Kaku Erzuah, has commended the New Patriotic Party (NPP) for assisting the CPP to win three parliamentary seats in the just ended general election. He said the gesture of the NPP had saved the CPP from total humiliation in the election.
Mr. Erzuah gave the commendation in an interview with the Ghana News Agency at Nkroful at the weekend some few days after the Electoral Commission (EC) had declared the results of the elections.
He noted that Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, the founder and leader of the CPP's name would have been erased from Ghanaian politics if the NPP had not thrown its full weight and support behind the three parliamentary candidates who contested on the ticket of the CPP, namely Hon. Freddie Blay, Mr. Paa Kwesi Nduom and Mr. Kojo Armah.
Mr. Erzuah said the action of the NPP clearly demonstrated that the CPP and the UP traditions were the only known political traditions in the country, which should be sustained.
He attributed the poor performance of the CPP in the election to poor organization, selfishness, and the uncompromising attitude of people who claimed to be "true Nkrumaists".
Mr. Erzuah urged leaders of the various Nkrumahist parties to learn their lesson by burying their differences and come together to reorganize the CPP into a formidable party involving the youth.
On the accusations against Fantes for voting against Prof. John Evans Atta Mills, flag bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Mr. Erzuah said the voting pattern by the people in the Central and Western regions was just to educate Ghanaians that "tribal voting is very dangerous" and should be discouraged in the country's politics.
He appealed to the people in the Ashanti and Volta regions in particular to desist from voting on tribal lines without assessing the capability of the candidates involved.
Mr. Erzuah warned that tribal voting would disunite Ghanaians as well as undermine the peace and development of the country.
