Afari-Gyan commends Ghanaians

Accra, Dec. 7, GNA - Dr Kwadwo Afari-Gyan, Chairman of the Electoral Commission on Tuesday commended Ghanaian voters for exhibiting maturity during the presidential and parliamentary elections. "Am overwhelmed by the orderliness at most of the polling stations even at traditionally hot spots," Dr Afari-Gyan told the Ghana News Agency after an eight-hour tour of 10 out of the 27 Constituencies in the Greater Accra region.

The EC Chairman, however, expressed concern about some reportage of proceedings at polling stations by "unprofessional journalists" stressing that such biased reports had the potential of generating undue tension.

He said the Commission would assess the general trend throughout the country and issue a report later.

The Constituencies he visited were Ayawaso East, Ayawaso Central, Ayawaso West Wugon, Okiakwei North and South, Trobu Amasaman, Weija, Abokobi Madina Adenta and Dome Kwabenya. The Chairman who looked physically tired after the visit appealed to Ghanaians to exercises restraint as the results trickle in from the countryside.
