Ghanaians advised to refrain from acts that demoralize Christmas

The Bishop of Tarkwa Diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Right Reverend Thomas Aponsah Donkor has admonished Ghanaians to refrain from activities that demoralized the purpose of Christmas during and after the festive season.

He said Christmas festivity is a season where Christians are required to reconciliate with others and show love especially the needy.

The Bishop of Tarkwa Diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana, Rt. Rev. Aponsah Donkor made the advice at a Christmas Church Service in Tarkwa yesterday, December 25, 2018.

The nativity of birth of Jesus Christ is the basis for the Christian holiday of Christmas and is described in the gospels.

In Christian theology the nativity marks the birth of Jesus Christ in fulfillment of the divine will of God, to save the world from sin.

Jesus' birth was the conception of the Holy Spirit in a human virgin to bring forth our Savior who is both the complete God and a genuine perfect man.

Christmas is celebrated to remember the birth of Jesus Christ, who Christians believe is the son of God.

Christians believe that Jesus is the light of the world, so the early Christians thought that this was the right time to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. They also took over some of the customs from the Winter Solstice and gave them Christian meaning.

The name 'Christmas' comes from the Mass of Christ.



Christmas is now celebrated by people around the world , whether they are Christians or not.

It's a time when families and friends come together and remember the good things they have.

People, and especially Children, also like Christmas as it is a time when you give and receive presents.

Christmas was first celebrated on December 25th in 336 during the time of Roman Empire Constantine ( he was the first Christian Roman Empire).

A few years later, Pope Julius I officially declared the birth of Jesus Christ would be celebrated on the 25th December.

However, there are many different traditions and theories as to why Christmas is celebrated on December 25th.

Christmas is a season where Children are bought with a new clothes by their parents and loved ones. It's a time when Churches also go for convention and retreat to reunite with God.
It's a time of Merry making.

Right Reverend Thomas Aponsah Donkor, the Bishop of Tarkwa Diocese of the Methodist Church of Ghana advised Ghanaians to use the Christmas as a season to reconcile with everybody by way of forgiven one another.

Bishop Aponsah Donkor cautioned the youth not to also use the occasion as a platform to engage themselves in immoral acts.
