Most of our members are drivers – Drunkards Association president

Drunkards Association of Ghana Drunkards Association of Ghana

The President of the Drunkards Association of Ghana has confirmed that most of their members are drivers, a reason why they will intensify their sensitization drive at lorry stations during the Yuletide.

Moses Onyah, however, indicated that anyone who has “kissed a glass [of wine]” is a drunkard.

Mr Onyah says from Thursday, December 20, they will embark on what they term “Responsible Drinking Tour (RDT)” to reduce road crashes during the Christmas and New Year holidays.

He said efforts of similar nature last year yielded positive results, reducing road traffic offences.

Mr Onyah was speaking on TV3’s Midday Live on Wednesday ahead of the holidays.

He pointed out that they are going to visit drinking bars, spots as well as restaurants to educate owners and workers on responsible drinking.

Road accidents are said to increase during festive occasions like Christmas.

The National Road Safety Commission (NRSC), therefore, intensifies surveillance on major roads and up their education campaigns for drivers on responsible driving.

Daniel Wuaku, a Deputy Director of the Commission, told TV3 on Wednesday, December 12 that it will be willing to collaborate with the Drunkards Association of Ghana in their drive.

Mr Onyah advised drunkards to drink enough water before any alcoholic beverage since alcohol takes about 8 hours to digest.
